Resources/ Lessons Global ELL classroom

Teaching English as a new language is extremely rewarding. Students need to engage with the language in useful and meaningful ways to make it their own. They also need to understand their role as global citizens. Here are some local resources and lesson plans with a global education focus to use with students who have a "basic" to "intermediate" command of the language.

1. International Rescue Center: The local Phoenix office is a great resource. They provide invaluable information about refugees, their strengths and their needs. They also have opportunities for students to get involved by taking action.

2.  Our Africa: Give students an opportunity to really understand where they come from. Have them research their countries of origin, create presentations,  and then present to school clubs.

3. Arizona State University's Center for Global Education: Locate speakers and connect with other local educators interested in bringing global education into their classrooms.

4. Local Exchange Organizations: A great resource to connect you with local organizations that represent countries from around the world. Invite speakers into your classrooms, or have your students speak to these groups.

5. Alpha Delta Kappa (International Honorary for Women Educators): Take action with this local chapter and help make education to ALL a reality.

6. My Immigration StoryAn entire 6 to 9 week unit plan designed to give students a "voice" to their immigration story with the objective of helping others understand a different perspective.

7.  Thinglink: great tool to use with students. Click on the link below to see how I have used this resource to describe my classroom.
